(By Richard Holway) As its current Chairman, today I’m addressing the Prince’s Trust Technology Leadership Group AGM. Most of the 50+ Patrons and Members will be represented. Together we will have raised over £7m for the Trust since we founded the group in 2002. Indeed this year will be another record year when we hope to raise close to another £2m for the crucial work that the Trust does helping disadvantaged young people to ‘get a decent start in life’.
One of the fund raising initiatives this year is ‘Million Makers’. It’s a bit like Dragons Den but aimed at the employees of our member companies. You put up a business plan, the Trust ‘entrusts’ you with £3000 which you are expected to turn into a profit of at least £20,000. The aim, as the programme title implies, is to raise £1m in total.
I thought you might both be interested AND might actively participate in the idea from Fujitsu Services who have set up www.donatebypixel.com a website that sells advertising space for £2 per grid.
As reported in Webuser “Mudassir Husain, who is leading the team said the concept for the website is an old one, most famously employed by Alex Tew, who set up the original million dollar website to finance his studies. "He did it for the money, we're doing it for charity," Husain said.
In the first week they have sold 67,000 pixels. Who says charity has to suffer when times are tough?

It's worth noting that Alex Tew, who originated the idea of selling adverts on a per-pixel basis, was originally helped into business with the support of the Princes Trust.
