(By Anthony Miller) Ahead of tomorrow’s interim results, ‘application modernisation’ player (the erstwhile Old Coboler!) Micro Focus will venture across the pond for the fourth time in 18 months, to acquire privately held (and Intel-backed) Relativity Technologies for just under $10m cash. RT appears to do the ‘due diligence’ front-end bit of application modernisation so at first blush it sounds a pretty sensible bolt-on for Micro Focus. I’ll go into more detail about Micro Focus after the interims, but suffice it to say that in today’s ‘much more for much less’ crunch, ‘make do and mend’ seems an ever more attractive proposition for updating legacy applications than wholesale replacement.
