'Wrong kind of snow'...on the internet?

(By Richard Holway) As the news today is dominated by the snow, you probably don’t need any more from me. But I was ‘amused’ when I checked into the South West Trains website to see if trains were running to London. Their site was down with a message that this was caused by the large number of people accessing it due to the weather!

Wonderful! “Wrong kind of snow” might be an excuse for not running the trains but not a reason for withdrawing your website on the very day we needed it most. The snow was, afterall, forecast last Friday. If you can't clear the lines, at least you should ensure you have sufficient web capacity to handle the inevitable surge.
